In March 2011, DenverUrbanism launched a collaboration with UrbanDesignPodcast.com, a great podcast run by local urban designer Arina Habich. Once a quarter, DenverUrbanism hosts a roundtable discussion about a timely Denver urbanism topic which Arina produces as a podcast on UrbanDesignPodcast.com. Our two podcasts so far have covered the Denver Union Station project and Downtown Denver’s 14th Street Initiative.

This quarter, we’re discussing the redevelopment challenges and opportunities in Arapahoe Square, the 30-block district immediately northeast of Denver’s Central Business District that’s plagued by surface parking lots and other issues but primed to become Denver’s next great urban district. Our guests are Jynx Messacar, owner of Merchants Office Furniture—a fourth generation business located in the heart of Arapahoe Square; Courtland Hyser, planner with the city’s Community Planning and Development agency who helped lead the recent Arapahoe Square planning effort; and David Zucker, principal of Zocalo Development, which is currently under construction on a 10-story, 231-unit apartment building within Arapahoe Square.
