With so much focus on Downtown Denver, our noisy public realm, a renewed commitment to Vision Zero, and even a Liveable Larimer campaign, avid readers of DenverUrbanism would be remised in thinking we’ve got our hands full, covering new urban amenities and pressing challenges that need energy and renewed focus. But some projects truly can improve the urban environment on multiple fronts at once. The 5280 Trail has been talked about, planned for, and designed around for years; finally there is funding to make (part of) the trail happen. A project with a long timeline like the 5280 Trail needs champions, enthusiasts, and early users! So get involved!
Join us as we walk, stroll, and roll the full 5.28 mile route, stop to talk about growth and change along the Trail, and make friends along the way! Full schedule of departure times in the map below.
We will be meeting at 9:00 AM in Martin Plaza, north of 12th Avenue and Acoma Street. We will depart at 9:30 AM, then walk clockwise through the 5280 Trail. It ought to be hot, so bring water, hats, and sunglasses. We will arrive at Union Station at 11:45 AM, with an hour of downtime for a quick snack, ice cream, coffee, etc. until we leave for the second half of the walk. After we get back to Martin Plaza, those interested can get an afternoon drink/snack with us at Leven Deli.
Expect to learn, with brief but deep presentations about each key location. Hearing from special guests, learn about important neighborhood initiatives, plans to revitalize Downtown, and see proposed developments and streetscape changes before they ever break ground. Come ready to ask questions too! This should be a fun way to walk a path maybe you’ve never taken before, for as long or as little time as you have on your Saturday.
RSVP to the event on Meetup.com. We hope to see you out on the Trail with us!
