Are you an urbanist? Are you passionate about making Denver the best city it can be?
If so, please join us for our second Denver Urbanists MeetUp on Thursday, September 12, 5:30 PM at Wynkoop Brewing Company at 18th & Wynkoop. There is no program or anything formal, just like-minded urbanists getting together to chat, collaborate, and advance a positive urban agenda for Denver!
We had a great turnout (over 60!) at our first MeetUp in July. Please help us make MeetUp #2 even better!

What would you like to accomplish at Denver Urbanists MeetUp #2?
One of if not the largest and oldest tree in Denver met its demise in recent days as the towering stately tree (I believe it was a Cottonwood) between Ogden and Emerson along the north side of Alameda Avenue was cut down. Likely either the tree was quite diseased in its old age, creating a potential peril of causing damage should weather strike it via either lightning or with snow accumulation, or the growth of the trunk and root structure was creating problems for the very adjacent surface and subsurface infrastructure as the outside of the trunk was very closely to the edge of the sidewalk where it meets the curb, gutter, and street. It is likely there are larger and older trees within Denver, but this one was quite visible in a traffic area, and its prolific height was noticeably greater when descending down westbound Alameda from the higher elevations east of Downing and Franklin Streets. Dr Tom Noel may have a better idea of which existing tree is the oldest and largest in the Denver area from the conversations and correspondence he has undoubtedly had with numerous residents.
