If you were wondering what the loud jack-hammering sound was echoing throughout Downtown and Lower Highland in the middle of the night, here’s your answer:
CDOT crews hacked away at the northbound side of the 15th Street bridge over Interstate 25, part of a larger multi-phase project discussed in yesterday’s post. The highway should be open Sunday morning by around 10 AM. Then, the highway will close again Sunday night for Demolition Day 2. The highway will reopen by 5:30 AM Monday morning.
Great pics. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
why destroy half? what about all the buses that need this bridge? did they destroy half the bridge so it the other half can still be used?
they should have built a temp bridge before this. Did they not think about all the people that use that bridge to get to work? especially on the bus
Uh, yeah, they destroyed half so they can build the new half while traffic is maintained on the remaining old half. Then they’ll move traffic to the new half once it’s complete, tear down the remaining old half, and then build the new final half. This is standard operating procedure for the vast majority of bridge reconstructions.
Aaron, its a four lane bridge. There will be one lane in each direction available.
Somewhat related question… The area across from the new Prost Brewing…at the intersection of Central and 20th street/I-25 — is that space just being used for storage of construction equipment at the moment or is a new building going to be built on that ground?
Just construction staging. Once construction is complete, the area will be re-landscaped.
